Frequently Asked Questions

Which outdoor display gets noticed first at a county show? +
Height wins in an open field, so feather flags are usually the first thing a visitor registers — a run of Straight or Convex Feather Fabric Flags along an entrance drive reads from much further away than a single large banner at ground level. A printed gazebo then does the close-range work, telling people what you actually sell once they are within a stone's throw. Inflatables such as the Round Arch Inflatable or the Inflatable Tube Man create a focal point rather than carrying detail, so keep their artwork simple. Most pitches that work well use one of each rather than three of the same thing.
How do I anchor displays on hard standing where I cannot drive in stakes? +
This is the single most common problem at car park and showground pitches. Ground stakes only work in soft ground, so on tarmac or concrete you need dead weight instead: Sand Bags over the feet of flag bases, Round Water Bags on parasol and gazebo legs, and weight plates stacked around each corner. Bring more ballast than you think you need, because under-weighting one leg is enough to lift a whole structure when a gust catches it. Never substitute a toolbox or a crate of stock for proper weights — they shift, and they are not designed to be pulled against.
Will printed colours fade over a season of outdoor events? +
Dye-sublimated polyester holds colour well, but continuous UV exposure across a summer of shows will gradually shift the most saturated areas first, with reds and deep blues usually showing it soonest. Kit that lives outdoors every weekend from May to September will look noticeably different from kit used a handful of times. Store everything out of direct sunlight between events rather than leaving it in a sunlit van or window, and expect the highest-mileage flags to need refreshing before the gazebo does. Ordering a spare flag skin at the outset is easier than arranging a rush reprint mid-season.
What happens to feather flags in gusty conditions? +
Flags are designed to flex and rotate, and most damage happens when something stops them doing that. If a flag is guyed too tightly, or the swivel at the top has seized, the fabric tears at the sleeve or the top pole section snaps instead of the gust being absorbed. Let the flag rotate freely, check the base is properly weighted, and drop the top section when the wind gets up rather than leaving it to flog itself to pieces. Inspect the sleeve stitching after every windy event, because that is always where failure starts.
Do the inflatable displays need a power supply? +
Yes — the Inflatable Tube Man with Constant Air Supply, the Round Arch Inflatable, the Racing Fabric Air Gate and V-Arc Inflatable Tents all rely on a blower running continuously to hold their shape. That means a reliable mains feed or a generator at the pitch, plus an outdoor-rated cable route that will not become a trip hazard across a public walkway. If your pitch has no power, a feather flag or a printed gazebo is the better choice. Confirm the power arrangement with the event organiser before you commit to an inflatable for a specific site.
How do I handle rain, both on the day and afterwards? +
Set a gazebo so water runs off away from the customer side rather than over your serving point, and keep any valance banner clear of the drip line so it is not sitting permanently soaked. Flags shed water without harm, but wet fabric is considerably heavier and loads the pole more, so treat a wet windy day more cautiously than a dry one. The real damage happens after the event: fabric packed away damp will mildew within days and the marks do not come out. Dry everything fully before it goes back into a bag, even if that means hanging it at home on the Monday.
How should artwork be prepared for tall, narrow flags? +
Design for something that is read in a glance from a moving car: one word or logo, set as large as the shape allows, positioned high. Keep detail out of the bottom third, where it will be blocked by parked cars, crowds and the base itself. Because a feather flag curves, artwork close to the leading edge wraps away from the viewer, so centre anything critical rather than pushing it to the pole side. We offer free artwork assistance and a free 2D mockup on every flag order so you can check the layout before printing.
What arrives, and how is outdoor kit delivered and stored? +
Free UK delivery applies across the range and every item carries a 1-year product warranty. Flags typically arrive as pole sections plus a printed skin, with bases and ballast ordered separately, so check you have ordered the anchoring as well as the display — it is the most commonly forgotten part of an outdoor kit. Keep the original bags and label each one, because a full season of events is far easier when everything is organised rather than loose in the back of a van.
