Frequently Asked Questions

How dense does a flower wall need to be before it photographs properly? +
Dense enough that you cannot see the backing panel through the blooms from a couple of metres away at eye level. This is the single biggest difference between a flower wall that looks expensive and one that looks like a craft project: sparse panels show gaps and hard shadows between the flowers, and a camera flash makes those gaps far more obvious than they appear to the naked eye. Look at product photography taken straight on rather than at an angle, since an angled shot hides gaps. If you are combining panels, plan to overlap the foliage slightly at the joins rather than butting them edge to edge.
How do I support a flower wall in a venue that bans wall fixings? +
Mount the panels on a freestanding frame rather than the venue's wall, which is what most hotels, listed buildings and barn wedding venues insist on in their hire agreements. A freestanding backdrop stand carries the panels on a structure with its own feet, so nothing is screwed, nailed or taped to the venue's surfaces and there is no risk of losing a deposit. Weight the base if the wall will stand near a propped-open marquee door or in any draught, because a large floral panel presents a lot of surface area. Always check the ceiling height at the exact position first, as many village halls are lower than expected.
What is the honest difference between a faux flower wall and fresh flowers? +
Fresh flowers have depth, scent and variation that artificial blooms do not fully replicate, and up close a guest standing beside the wall will know. Artificial panels win everywhere else: they do not wilt in a warm function room over an eight-hour reception, they can be built the day before, they are unaffected by seasonality, and they can be used again. For a wall of this size, fresh flowers also carry a very different cost in £ and require a florist on site. The practical answer for most events is artificial for the large backdrop and a small amount of fresh foliage worked into the front edge if you want the scent.
How should a flower wall be lit? +
Light it from the front and slightly to the side, never from directly overhead. Overhead function-room lighting flattens the flowers and drops the whole wall into an even shadow, which is exactly what makes a good floral panel look like printed wallpaper in photographs. A little side light creates shadow between individual blooms and brings out the texture that justifies the wall in the first place. Avoid coloured uplighting on a pastel wall, as a strong wash will shift the colour of the flowers and the skin tones of everyone standing in front of them.
Can I combine a flower wall with a printed sign or personalised graphic? +
Yes, and it is a common and effective combination — a name, a monogram or an age set against the florals gives the wall a focal point and stops it reading as pure decoration. Keep the sign above head height or offset to one side so guests do not stand in front of it, and choose a solid, bold typeface, because fine script disappears against a busy floral background. Contrast is what matters: pale lettering vanishes on a light wall. We offer free artwork assistance and a free 2D mockup so you can see how the lettering sits against the floral style before committing.
Will an artificial flower wall work outdoors or inside a marquee? +
In a marquee, yes, provided the base is weighted and the wall is not sited in the through-draught of an open doorway. Fully outdoors is more of a risk: wind moves individual stems and can lift whole panels, and rain will leave water sitting in the blooms which then has to be dried before the wall is packed away. Direct sunlight over repeated events will also fade colours, so a hire company should keep its best panels for indoor bookings. If you must go outside, pick a sheltered aspect with a solid wall or hedge behind.
How do I store faux floral panels between events? +
Store them flat or upright with the flowers facing outward, never stacked face down under weight, because crushed blooms take a permanent set and cannot be fully revived. Give them a shake and reshape individual stems with your fingers before each event; five minutes of fluffing makes a visible difference to how the wall photographs. Keep the panels dry and out of direct sunlight in storage, and dust them occasionally with a soft brush or a hairdryer on a cool setting. For hire businesses, storing panels in individual covers keeps the dust off and keeps the foliage from tangling between jobs.
How do I work out how many panels I need to cover the space? +
Measure the width you want to fill and the height you want covered, then check the stated panel size on the product page and divide, rounding up. Order slightly more coverage than the bare measurement suggests, because you will want a little overlap at the joins and some flexibility if the wall has to shift to avoid a socket or a radiator. Also decide how high the wall needs to reach: covering only to head height means the join line appears in every group photograph.
